To Lie Or Not To Lie On Your Online Dating Profile
If you think lying about your age (or anything else) on your online dating profile is a bad thing, don’t do it, that’s cool with me. It’s actually noble and I’m happy just knowing there are better people than me out there. You give me hope.
(Added after I wrote this post and the follow-up. ) WAIT!!! Before you go ANY further, you should read what happened to me because I lied on my profile, I don’t recommend it anymore.
But, for the rest of us… I’m going to talk about the thing that people lie about most… AGE.
Here’s how the age thing breaks down. Many guys take a year or two off their age when they hit 30. Some women also lie about their age. The average for women is around three years and if a woman says she’s between 36 and 38, there’s a good chance she’s not.
Let me explain: You find something interesting when you take a look at the ages of women in the US population and compare it to the ages of women on dating sites.
There are more women in their late 30’s and less women in their early 40’s on dating sites than there are in the general population. A couple of things could make sense here. One, lots and lots of women in their late 30’s decide to date online, but when they hit 40, they stop online dating for some reason no one can explain.
Or, some of those women in their early forties are actually lying and just saying they’re in their late 30’s.
The same bump-and-drop happens to men around this age, but to a lesser extent. And both men and women seem to stop aging at 29 and start again at 32. Pretty mysterious!
So, do what you will with your age. Personally, if I was interested in women within 10 years of my age, I’d put my real age down. And, the younger you are, the less it matters. I think it’s okay to fudge a little on your profile. Some people don’t agree, that’s fine with me, they don’t have to do it. But, I don’t have a problem tricking the search engines to get women I’m more interested in to look at my profile.
For example I’m 44 years old right now. Before I moved to Vegas last fall, I’d never been with a woman over 28. I prefer my women young.
Now, I could tell the truth and say that I’m 44, but guess what? The women I’m attracted to are NOT going to do a search for some guy who’s old enough to be her father. And most women who are doing a search for guys well above their age are looking for a sugar daddy… that is NOT what they’re going to get with me.
So, I trick the search engines by lowering my age in the “general information” area and list myself as between 34 and 38, depending on the site.
BUT… and this is a huge “but”, I tell the girl in my profile write-up that I’m not in my 30’s. I give no explanation and no excuse for it either. (I explain why not in my Instant Internet Attraction program.) I just tell them. AND I only have pictures up that are recent, 3 months old at most. So these women know what I look like.
Somewhere near the end of my profile I’ll write: “Oh, I’m not 38. But my pictures are recent. That one of me on the airplane was taken last month on the way to Hawaii.” as if it’s an afterthought and then I go on with my profile.
Now, I always get asked how old I am and why I didn’t put my real age on the site. I tell the truth, that I prefer to date younger women and that I want to show up in their searches. I’ve dated hundreds of women I met on online dating sites and only 2 of them have ever NOT wanted to meet me either because of my age or because I lied about it. If you use the principles in Instant Internet Attraction, THEY WON’T CARE HOW OLD YOU ARE.
