Online Dating Gold Digger or the Girl Next Door

Online Dating Gold Digger…? Or Is She Playing Fair?

Gold digger or not, a lot of people don't agree with relationships where men use women for their looks and women use men for their money.

You know a couple weeks ago when I posted that article about the cougar/cub study?

Well, here’s another one…

A story was reported by the Business Insider about a 23 year old New York woman, Jessica Sporty, who used Match.com to score over $1,200 a month at fancy restaurants and clubs.

The report ripped into Sporty for being a “gold digger”.

This may or may not be ethical, but the founder of what’s your price, Brandon Wade, backs Jessica up saying that if she lets the guys know ahead of time that she’s only in it for a free meal and drinks, then there’s nothing wrong with what she’s doing.

According to Business Insider, Jessica was tired of using her savings to keep up with her Manhattan lifestyle. In fact, her $45,000 a year salary was hardly enough to pay her rent or credit card bills. To solve her financial problems, she joined an online dating website by paying $50 a month in subscription fees to find men who are willing to take her out on dates and pay for dinner and drinks.

Soon, she recruited her roommate into her scheme. Both had the entire process down to a science. They would never allow men to pick them up from their home and would only meet them in public places. They would schedule dates every day of the week, rotating from a list of men they kept on a spreadsheet. They had another rule, never to have more than five dates with every one guy, so to not end up emotionally attached to anyone.
While her behavior has enraged thousands of readers, is it really wrong or unethical?

Tough times have one woman in New York getting free meals from guys on online dating sites.

“Dating for free dinners isn’t unethical or wrong, as long as someone is upfront and honest about their intention so no one is misled in the process,” says Brandon Wade, an online dating expert and founder of online dating website WhatsYourPrice.com where generous members pay attractive members to go on first dates. “However, Match.com is really not the best place to date for free dinners. Jessica Sporty and her roommate would have received much more than $1,200 a month if they had signed up for an account on WhatsYourPrice.com instead.”

Obviously, what Jessica Sporty is doing to earn a mere $1,200 a month by having dinner dates Monday thru Friday every week is hard work, according to a WhatsYourPrice.com member who received $1,000 on her last first date via the dating website: “I don’t know where she gets the energy to meet a different man every night and to put on the charms for a free meal. I can only imagine all the sexual advances she would have to dodge. Maybe it’s just me, but my tolerance these days for such hassle is diminishing by the year.”

I’d love to know what you guys think, send me a message and chime in.

Personally, I agree with Wade. As long as these guys know what they’re getting into, it’s all fair. At least Sporty is honest with herself and guys. Though I don’t think most women are like this. But maybe I’ve just led a sheltered life.

And before we get all high-and-mighty as guys, start pointing fingers and complaining to our friends, take a look at this too…

A survey conducted by WhatsYourPrice.com earlier this year revealed that over 60% of all men who use online dating services are serial daters interested only in casual hookups.

“A large number of men use online dating websites to bait women into having sex with the false promise of love,” says Wade who holds a BS and MBA degrees from MIT. “The irony is in why so many people find Jessica Sporty’s behavior distasteful just because she has succeeded in turning the tables around by baiting men into giving her free dinners with the lure of sex.” Source
