Online dating statistics show that it is becoming more and more popular with people of all age groups.

You might be interested to know these online dating statistics… I certainly was. If nothing else, they will be fun to throw out there when conversation gets to online dating stories, as it always does.

1. People who meet online and end up getting married date 18.5 months. Married couples who met offline date 3.5 years before getting married.

2. 1 out of 3 women who meet a guy online have sex on the first date.

I’m not sure what this online dating fact means. It could mean that one of three first dates ends up in sex, or it might be that one of three women have had sex with a guy they met online on a first date at some point in their online dating experience.

There’s a big difference. My guess is that 1 of 3 women have had sex on the first date… NOT every first date… but at least one first date with a guy they met online.

This is also a little misleading because it probably follows the 80/20 rule where 20% of the guys are scoring with the majority of women while the other 80% of guys are getting nothing

In other words, these women are sleeping with the same guys. I know for me, about 2 of every 3 first dates ends up with sex, but I know a lot of guys who have had 6 dates with 6 different women who haven’t slept with any of them. (This is before getting my help though.)

3. Of all the people who are single in the United States, almost 40% of them use online dating sites to find someone. That’s almost double what it was three years ago. And it’s expected that within a year it will be MORE common for a single person to be dating online than not.

That’s great news for those of us dating online now, because we can use what we learn to attract even more women as more and more people join.

4. Men lie most about their age, income and height. I went over this in detail in my post about what people lie about most on their online dating profiles.

Women lie most about their age, weight and body type. We know this already though! That’s why so many women are stood up when the guy peeks in the window to catch a glimpse of his date who is really 25 pounds bigger than she said she was.

5. One out of every 10 “people” online are really scammers. Be sure to read my posts about online dating scams.

6. 10% of sex offenders use online dating sites to meet people. Don’t get confused with this one. It DOESN’T say that 1 of 10 people who are online dating are sex criminals, it says that of all the sex offenders, only 10% of them are online.

7. 20% of the unmarried population are in a committed relationship with someone they met on an online dating site.

This means that online dating demographics are changing. One of every 5 relationships started online. It’s not nearly as big a deal as it used to be. I know when I first started online dating, I didn’t want to tell people how I met my girlfriends. Now it just doesn’t matter.

There were a bunch of other cool statistics I found while doing online dating research, that I thought were really interesting. Here are a few I thought you might like…

You have about an hour to make a first impression on the woman you’re seeing on that first date. Within that hour she’ll decide if she wants a second date or not. We make a decision a lot faster… a woman only has 15 minutes to impress us.

In the US and Canada the average age men get married is 28, for women it’s 26.

Remember that statistic above where that says 1 of 3 women have had sex on the first date with someone they met online? 80% of them didn’t use protection. That means you better WRAP THINGS UP!

A study in Denmark found that women who marry guys 7-9 years younger than them have a 20% higher mortality rate. If they marry someone 7-9 years younger they have an 11% higher mortality rate. If the same holds true worldwide, you’re decreasing you’re wife’s life expectancy if you’re 7-9 years younger or older.

The average age of someone online dating is 48.

Last year women made more money than their husbands in 22% of the marriages.

Of all the single people in the US over 18, 61% have never been married, 24% are divorced, and 15% widowed.

92% of the single parents would rather date someone with kids than someone childless.
